We are thrilled to announce the Gold Coast Light Rail Stage 3 Community Benefit Fund recipients. A total of 10 community groups have received up to $3,000 worth of funding to deliver positive initiatives from Broadbeach south to Burleigh Heads.
Community Fund recipients
Volunteering Gold Coast: Funded new IT equipment to enable remote work, ensuring service continuity for disadvantaged community members and promoting their wellbeing and inclusivity.
Serving Our People: Supported The Peoples Market which provides groceries to thousands of Gold Coast community members.
Gold Coast Hospital Foundation: Contributed to the Cancer Patient Transport Service, ensuring cancer patients have access to life saving treatments,
Country Women's Association, Mermaid Beach: Upgraded security equipment to enhance staff safety while supporting various community initiatives.
Seed the Ground: Supported a food waste program operating in local schools, cafes, and restaurants.
Mermaid Beach AEME Surf Life Saving Club Inc: Funded lifesaving training and new equipment to assist staff in their rescue duties.
Friends with Dignity: Provided new whiteware for their Sanctuary program, helping to transform houses into homes for individuals escaping domestic violence.
Gold Coast Youth Service: Funding for The Friendly Brew Program, an initiative aimed at supporting young people's creative expression to promote sustainable practices. Young participants will design sustainable coffee cups to be produced and used from Broadbeach to Burleigh.
Burleigh Heads Community Kindergarten: Acquired a new AED (Automated External Defibrillator) to enhance health and safety for children, families, staff and visitors
Miami State High School P&C Association: Funded a new bike shelter to promote and support active travel among students.
The Community Fund is set up to support valuable grassroots initiatives along the project alignment. This fund is designed to give back to the community, and support projects and organisations that are aligned with the values of project partners.
Projects and initiatives have outlined that they will:
demonstrate positive and lasting benefits to Gold Coast community, specifically in the southern part of Broadbeach, in Mermaid Beach, Nobby Beach, Miami and Burleigh Heads.
enhance community operations through programs, infrastructure or equipment.
demonstrate they have encouraged or promoted sustainability.
The project team has partnered with Bendigo-Adelaide Bank to administer the Community Fund via their Community Enterprise Foundation.

Who could apply?
Community groups, sporting organisations and not-for-profit groups, located along or providing benefit to the community along the GCLR Stage 3 project alignment (Broadbeach south to Burleigh Heads, near the Gold Coast Highway).
When was the application period?
The application portal opened on Monday 29 January 2024 and closed on Friday 1 March 2024.
What is the total value of the fund?
The total Community Fund for Gold Coast Light Rail Stage 3 is $30,000.
How much could submissions be made for?
Community Fund allocations for successful applicants’ initiatives or projects are delivered in allotments of up to $3,000.
How were the recipients decided?
The Bendigo-Adelaide Bank Community Enterprise Foundation team reviewed applications under the criteria. A panel of project stakeholders assessed the submissions that complied. All applicants have now been advised about the outcome.
Could organisations, clubs or groups not on the Gold Coast Light Rail Stage 3 construction alignment apply?
Organisations located outside of the Broadbeach south to Burleigh Heads alignment could apply if their submission benefits the community in the areas along the alignment. Groups and organisations located outside the alignment area who benefit communities between Broadbeach south and Burleigh Heads were encouraged to apply. Groups and organisations located outside the alignment which do not benefit the community along the alignment were not eligible unfortunately.
When will funds be distributed?
Funds are scheduled to be distributed in mid-2024.
