Gold Coast Light Rail Stage 3

Gold Coast Light Rail is the largest transport project ever undertaken on the Gold Coast.

Gold Coast Light Rail Stage 3 (GCLR3) is a $1.2 billion, 6.7-kilometre extension of the light rail network from Broadbeach to Burleigh Heads and is funded by the Queensland and Australian governments in partnership with City of Gold Coast.

Stage 3 will extend the tram network to 27km from Helensvale to Burleigh Heads and will reduce demand on local roads and improve the liveability and urban amenity of the city.

A total of 82 million-plus paid passenger journeys (as of March 2024) have been recorded on the existing light rail network, exceeding the projected patronage expectations.

Stage 3 includes an upgrade and expansion of the existing depot and stabling facilities, new light rail and bus connections at Burleigh Heads and Miami, and supporting works and improvements, including signalised traffic intersections and upgrades, safer signalised pedestrian crossings and improved pedestrian and bicycle facilities.

Once complete, you’ll be able to travel from Broadbeach south station to Burleigh Heads in just 17 minutes.
